In 1996, Shafik Sachedina was appointed as Head of the Department of Jamati (Ismaili Community) in France. The community is also known as the Ismaili Institute. Sachedina holds several prominent positions including Head of the Department of Diplomatic Affairs, at the Aiglemont Estate.
Shafik Sachedina began his career as a professional dental surgeon. He earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) from King’s College London (Guy’s Hospital Medical School) in 1975. After building a private practice in London, he eventually sought entrepreneurship in the healthcare industry. Besides working in the medical field, Sachedina serves as a member of the Institute’s Board of Governors and as the Joint Chairman of the Sussex Healthcare Company. He recently joined Sussex Healthcare in celebrating their 25th anniversary. Last year, Sachedina was asked take part in an informal council to discuss prevalent issues regarding the conflict in the Middle East.

Shafik Sachedina is from Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, he acquired British citizenship after relocating to London. In his role with the Institute of the Ismaili Studies he cultivates interest about Muslim religious culture and how it affects contemporary society. The institute examines all perspectives of Muslim beliefs in connecting with aspects of other communities. It’s also a place where forums and meetings are regularly held to discuss the widespread influence of Islamic society. Shafik’s main responsibility at the institute is to promote awareness about the postgraduate research program. The research program focuses on 16 key areas, however there is a three year track, which is geared towards encouraging those of Islamic faith to seek careers in research. It is open to students from around the world. The students can evolve into the postgraduate secondary program, a teaching initiative that leads to a Master’s Degree in Education.
The entrepreneur company that Shafik Sachedina co-founded is Sussex Healthcare, where he’s also the joint Chairman. Sussex is a designated healthcare partner provider, offering long term facility care to the elderly. Their area of specialized nursing home care began with an interest in assisting elderly patients with dementia. Because, according to scientific research conducted in the UK, a large segment of aging society suffers from some form of dementia related health conditions. Shafik Sachedina wanted to play an active role in the issues that affect this portion of the aging population. He remains involved in the daily operations of Sussex. The healthcare therapies include recreational activities and customized nursing home care.
