Dr. Shafik Sachedina was born in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania of East Africa. He holds British citizenship. He attended the Guy’s Hospital Medical and Dental School at the University of London. His specialty is dental surgery which he practiced in England for many years.
Today, his name is pseudonymous with being one the United Kingdom’s top dental surgeons. During his earlier years, he exhibited great management and visionary entrepreneurial qualities which drew the attention of several prestigious medical and dental institutions.
Dr. Sachedina holds management positions at Horsham Clinic, Islamic Publications, Institute of Ismaili Studies and at Imara U.K. a building and development company, he served as director from 1992 to 1997. He is also the present Co-Founder and CEO of Sussex Health Care. Sussex Health Care is a medical facility which helps elderly adults and other individuals with neurological and learning disabilities. The patients reside in several supervised homes.
The Sussex Health Care facilities not only addresses the intellectual concerns for the elderly with Dementia, Brain Injuries, Huntington, Parkinson, Alzheimer, and other damaging Neuron Diseases, Dr. Sachedina and his experienced staff cares for each patient’s social, physical, and emotional needs. Sussex manages 20 homes mainly in the West Sussex region.

Working with the Muslim community, Dr. Shafik Sachedina also volunteers and sits on the Board of Governors at the Aga Khan and Jamati Institutions in Aiglemont, France. In 1996, Shafik was appointed department head of the Ismaili Imamat community which is one of the major Shia branches of Islam. His responsibilities involve working as a coordinator of the Institution’s programs throughout its varied locations.
His additional duties involve coordinating His Highness Aga Khan’s Development Network programs in Central Asia and throughout the Ismaili communities. He was also appointed a fellow member of the Ismaili Leaders International Forum.
Dr. Shafik Sachedina mentors young people and trains them in the field of dentistry and in entrepreneurial skills. His healthcare company Sussex Healthcare has collaborated with the West Sussex University of Chichester. Their partnership designed a one-year program for students to complete their Higher Apprenticeship.
The students are encouraged to work at Sussex and attend different medical and healthcare workshops. The workshops are intensive and are designed to give students a hands-on training and hone their work ethics that is required at the completion of the program.
